Georgetown, the county seat of Williamson County, was founded in 1848 at the fork of the San Gabriel River. Georgetown is one of the best places to retire in the nation. The city of Georgetown also boasts on of the most attractive historic downtown areas in Texas. Much of the town has been preserved through the Main Street Project and the support of the Georgetown Heritage Society.
